ABSTRACT

Background. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, many studies have identified differences in college students’ attitudes towards vaccination. The aim of the present study was to investigate the psychological, emotional and behavioral responses influenced by the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine in a sample of college students in the health professions. Method. The questionnaire administered through the Google Modules platform was created ad hoc in order to investigate perceived stress (PSS-10), coping strategies (BRIEF COPE) and pre and post vaccination emotions (7 items). Participants. A total of 344 students participated in the study (M age = 22.62, SD = 3.17;F = 67.2%): medicine and surgery (37.5%), nursing (32.8%), obstetrics (15.4%) and physiotherapy (14.2%). Results. From the qualitative and quantitative analysis it emerged that 56.7% of the sample has moderate stress levels. Emotional and avoidant coping, especially in females, is the most prominent strategy. In the pre-vaccination analysis, “fear” was the primary emotion most experienced by students, characterized by the use of avoidance strategies. The words “hope” and “vaccination” were most often recorded in the post-vaccination phase. Conclusions. Our results showed that the association of lemmas in the post-vaccination phase shows students’ ability to adapt and be resilient through change and communicates that self-perception is important. © Author(s).

ABSTRACT

We aim to articulate the relationships between people's behavior and their vaccination representations according to social characteristics and the role of social media. We conducted our research using questionnaires and content analysis of magazines. Our work underscores how the interconnection among representations, people, experience, doubts about science, and many reiterated ambivalent messages of the media, trigger contradictory positions in most cases. Compared to this, a sociological approach may be useful for identifying the social conditions under which skeptical attitudes towards vaccinations emerge.

ABSTRACT

Issue During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, several critical issues emerged. One of these was to identify which was the best terminal disinfection strategy for hospital rooms of a COVID-19. Description of the problem. Our University Hospital adopted ozone disinfection two years ago, recognized internationally as a 'safe gas' and is an excellent disinfectant for its characteristics of attacking and oxidizing each type of organic and inorganic compound and specifically also works against SARS-CoV-2. Results 23 ozone generators were purchased, 20 ozonizers were assigned to departments with high environmental sanitation needs, 3 ozonizers supplied to the ozonator team. For the correct use of the equipment, 200 operators were trained in a certified way. The rooms are ozonated with pre-established frequency and whenever a COVID-19 patient is cared for. The ozonation team sanitizes rooms in wards that are not equipped but that may have hosted patients with carriers. Indications have been given in all the wards to create the ozonation room, that can be used as an ozone disinfection chamber, where it is possible to place garrisons and furnishings, even large-sized, that cannot be disinfected in other ways (in addition to sanitization with hypochlorite). The team also provides for the ozonation of ambulances with a predetermined periodicity or in the case of transport of patient carrying SARS-CoV-2.
